Aitutaki Beach - Cook Islands
by Mohammadali Faraji, PhD Student- The University of Newcastle (UoN), Callaghan, Australia
This photo is taken during my fieldwork at Cook Islands in Aitutaki island. I am standing on the coral reef of an isolated carbonate platform and the view is toward the lagoon of this carbonate sedimentary environment and to the volcanic core. The platform is formed after a volcanic eruption which has finally led to the formation of coral reef around the edge of the volcanic cone. Photo is taken by my smartphone, iPhone 7.
