The Penguins of Tristan da Cunha
We were on a research cruise from Walvis Bay to Cape Town via Tristan da Cunha. 24 Ocean Bottom Seismometers (OBS) were deployed a year ago around the island and were waiting to be collected. We spent a day on the Tristan da Cunha island mostly to collect samples, replenish our supplies and to have a walk around the island.
I caught these Rockhopper penguins hanging around and watching very closely towards MS Merian, our research vessel. Tristan and the surrounding islands are one of the most important breeding sites for the Northern Rockhopper penguins!
